"Being Severely Critical Can Produce Positive Creative Results"Creativity Challenge 2001 #7Over the years I have discovered that one trait that stands out in many to most very highly creative people is that they are seen as "severely critical" by others. They are seen as perfectionists, discontents, disruptive elements (disturbing elephants--thank you Wayne Dyer), highly critical. Upon further study with many such individuals I have discovered that yes they are "severely critical" when compared to others. At the same time they are more often selectively "severely critical" about. . .
They question nearly everything, at least everything of that they are focused on. This week let's practice being "severely critical" in a productive manner. Each day choose a different issue or challenge and take 15 to 30 minutes to write two lists: a) 12 things that are wrong and b) 12 things that might be improved with or without current limitations. Let the first list be negative in nature while striving to make the second list completely positive. MONDAY
Select a product you use in your home. TUESDAY
Select a product you use at work or school. WEDNESDAY
Select an issue from the newspaper or television/radio news. THURSDAY
Select an issue from your community or neighborhood. FRIDAY Select a highly personal issue: past, present or potential in the future. The goal is to see with a critical eye, while seeing with clearer vision, striving to creatively improve what exists. Have a creative week if you choose to have one Prev Page Next Page Index Page© 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006 Robert Alan Black, Ph.D. CSP |
