First They Laughed

Creativity Challenge 16

One of the greatest piece of wisdom a friend has shared with me came from a wonderful friend of many of us who passed on last October, Reverend Cam Barth.

I asked him one day what book(s) he was going to recommend in his sessions at CPSI. He responded, "I'm going suggest that they read the books sitting next to them on either side".

Most days I hear Cam remind me to do that.

So I picked up a book that reminded of it this morning...

THEY ALL LAUGHED...by Ira Flatow

It is filled of stories about ideas that people laughed at at first. The ideas went on to be great breakthroughs or successes.

What are some of your favorite ideas that were laughed at at first and what is one or two things you learned from them?

Vulcanized Rubber and Charles Goodyear
Xerography and Chester Carlson
Teaching Creative Thinking and Creativeness and Paul Torrance

 

Lessons from these for me......

persistance
self-belief
willingness to get up and try again
single focus and nearly any cost
