Stretch Your Horizons

Creativity Challenge 1998 #10

In his 1966 book, WHAT THE EXECUTIVE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT CREATING AND SELLING IDEAS, Eugene Raudsepp wrote....(Highly creative executives) "...acquired their creative problem-solving ability through disciplined practice.

If you were to examine their technique, you would probably find they follow six key steps to increase their creative power. So can (all of us).

  1. Stretch your horizons.
  2. Cultivate your field
  3. Pinpoint the problem
  4. Hunt for ideas
  5. Boost your lagging enthusiasm
  6. Prepare for premiere

This week focus on #1 Stretching Horizons a. read in other fields/professions/occupations/subject matter
b. collect and file clippings
c. work on a problem outside your area
d. take up a physical hobby that involves construction
e. continually look for connections
f. continually play with potential analogies between unrelated things.
