Rejectionitis

Creativity Challenge 1998 #28

6 times. 12 times. 24 times. Perhaps 144 times a week you or I suffer from "Rejectionitis": the repelling from others' rejections of our ideas.

Being creative would be so much easier if it weren't for all those people who become or think they are "instant experts" on any and all topics, who get up in the morning simply to "kill" our ideas.

This week's challenge is to create verbal cures for "Rejectionitis". List the first 12 "killer phrases" you receive this week. Then create responses to each one.

"It'll cost too much!" response "How much might be invest in testing the idea?" "We've tried that before!" response "What specifically caused it to fail that time?" "We don't do things like that around here!" response "What part of it do we do and how might "WE" modify it so it would be something we do around here?"

So your challenge is to collect the first 12 killer phrases or list your favorite 12. Then write responding questions (not statements...statements tend to be argumentative) to encourage the giver of the killer phrase to help you make your idea into an acceptable one to them.

Have a creative week!!!
