Do What in Another's Mocassins?

Creativity Challenge 1999 #15

Often to break down barriers or remove moods that seem to be lessening my abilities to be creative when I need to be or want to be I often just pay attention to things that are happening, even those I am not paying attention to at the moment.

Just a moment ago I typed the title of this Challenge. When I read it again I realized I had typed something different than I had planned. I thought to type "Walk in Another's Mocassins", while I actually typed "What in Another's Mocassins."

When I re-read it to check it I chose to go with the slip instead of my original intention because the accidental line was more in line with what I wanted to write any way. Perhaps my sub-conscious was trying to help me. Either way the result was a more creative and more accurate title.

Take time, about 5 to 15 minutes and think of the names of 12 to 24 people: famous, infamous, well-known, friends, relatives. As you think of their names write their name down on separate 3 x 5 index cards.

Second place the 12 to 24 cards in a shoe box size box or a large envelope or bag and mix them up.

Third choose an object (small to large) in the room you are in. The object could be on a shelf, a desk, a wall, the floor or hanging from the ceiling.

Fourth randomly pick 6 to 12 of the names or shuffle all of them like you would a deck of cards and then deal out 6 to 12.

Fifth pick the first card and through your imagination think like that person and ask yourself how would you improve, change, alter, revise the object (paper clip, pen holder, paper weight, computer, lamp,...etc.). Generate 6 ideas.

Sixth repeat this with 5 to 11 of the people's names.

Your goal is to be as unique, innovative, creative, novel as you can imagining yourself as the person you chose: Mozart, Frank Lloyd Wright, Babe Ruth, Jane Goodal, Ben Cohen (Ben & Jerry's), Margaret Meade, Mr. Wizard, Jonathon Winters or Robin Williams.

Have fun.

Enjoy your week. Deliberately choose to be creative whenever you can all week long.
