The Actual Story

Creativity Challenge 1999 #50

Since reading early thinking teaching materials back in the 1960s I have often had the habit of playing with what might be the story behind what I am seeing happening before me during the day. Often when I am faced with a frustrating action by someone else or what seems like a totally stupid action or selfish act I begin to play with what the Actual Story behind their act may be. Occasionally when I do this if my mood is testy at the time I end up telling myself to stop it. Yet though I become annoyed with myself for the unfruitful brainstorming or alternate possibility generating I discover that I have taken a more balanced and receptive perspective of the situation and have been able to walk away or simply let it go.

So this week practice creating several possible casual stories for things and actions that you see. To make it more interesting imagine yourself as having a different profession. Imagine yourself being an architect, contractor, police officer, bails bonds person, kindergarten teacher, street walker, politician then create the ACTUAL STORY behind the action through their eyes. Another way would to take on the persona/personality of a famous person and create the stories that they might.

Have fun using your imagination to create stories that precede the actions you experience.
