Creativity is Everywhere

Cre8ng™ Challenge 2000-09

I just spent the weekend in Norfolk, Virginia in the downtown area, based in the Marriott Waterside hotel attending the National Speakers Association's Eastern Winter Workshop. The program was fun and very valuable, yet no experiencing of Norfolk was included. Unfortunately this is true of many to most conferences.

So are most of our lives. We do not regularly or often enough take time to simply enjoy life on a daily basis. Don't save your life enjoyment until the weekend or vacation times.

Thus the inspiration for this Challenge.

Spontaneously take or pre-plan 30 to 60 minute Creativity Experiences at least once this week, preferably each day.

This was a habit I had when I was a young architect. I would spend my lunch hours walking and sitting, experiencing the environments near the various offices I worked in. Most of the time I would simply walk from the building to pick up a lunch or bring my own so that I could devote more of the time to the experiences that could be in store for me. Sometimes I would drive around the area after work to discover areas that required some driving to reach.

Walk with all your senses open to creativeness, beauty, novelty, learning. If you are a teacher take your students on a creative experience walk around the school or the area near the school. As a parent gather your family and go on a bicycle journey taking turns who does the leading of the journey.

Deliberately choose not to think about anything to do with work or other challenges in your life. Simply walk, bicycle, ride, drive or sit and enjoy or go to a particular spot and simply spend time there (park or urban area) and seek to totally enjoy the environment.

Have a creative week! It is your choice.
