See All Great-Hear All Great-Speak All Great

Creativity Challenge 2000 #51

Reversal is a strategy that helps spark creative thinking and often the puffs, sparks, bolts that lead to breakthrough thinking.

This week because of the multiple great holidays celebrated around the world let's expand our creative natures by reversing the old Monkey cliche of See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil.

Each morning take 15 minutes on a pad of paper or journal, a restaurant napkin, not a table cloth, maybe the place mat at your favorite Waffle House or MacDonald's jot down your thoughts what is it about the various holiday celebrations you are familiar with can lead to. . .

Seeing All Great, Hearing All Great, Speaking All Great in everyone you meet or think about each day this week.

Yesterday while driving into Atlanta for my monthly Georgia Speakers Association meeting the traffic slowed down just shy of my exit in a spot where slow downs happen often. I moved over as far right because the right lanes were moving as the middle to far left lanes came to a parking lot halt in preparation to exit. The car in front of me came to quick stop. I was able to easily stop quickly and safely.

The fellow behind me was not.

BANG!

No crash. Simply a loud, firm, BANG and a jolt.

I gestured quickly to the right and we both moved to the emergency parking side lane. I got out and saw no damage, felt no damage to me and then looked at his car, no damage either.

He was apologetic.

I seemed to be focused and a comfortable mood. No one was hurt. No apparent damage was done.

We talked briefly about my only concern with potential accidents is that my cars are both 10 years old and my potential fear is that someone else's mistake would cause me to lose my car at the very least because their insurance company would total it out at the blue book value and I would lose a well functioning car. He agreed pointing out the same would be true for him and apologized very sincerely again.

We each smiled, shook hands and wished each other a Merry Christmas. I suggested that he that it a little easier the rest of the day.

It was raining.

In a few seconds to minutes we each discovered that a couple hundred feet around the bend on the highway two people were not going to experience any of the holidays ever again.

See Great, Hear Great, Speak Great! as often as you can this week and feel the surging of your natural creativeness.

Happy Holidays
