Intuition a Creative Tool

Creativity Challenge 2001 #3

Last week the challenge was to focus on your five physical senses individually. This week thanks to my co-facilitating CPSI friend, Jo Yudess let's focus on one of the non-physical senses: intuition.

Each day give yourself the right to have some non-thinking time to allow ideas to arrive through intuition. First make sure that you have paper and pencil or pens to write with you at all times. You might consider using a tape recorder instead.

Every evening as you lay down to sleep, quietly, easily focus on the subject of the day telling yourself and your sub-conscious that you are ready and open to ideas for that subject. You might choose to be very specific as to a particular problem. If so, then comfortably let your mind focus on what you know about it and want from the problem as you are slowly breathing. You might choose to use very peaceful music to relax by.

During the night you may very well wake up. If you do write down anything that comes to mind. If it makes no immediate sense disregard that. Some times the clues will become obvious later: days, weeks, months.

As you wake up in the morning write down the first thoughts that come to your conscious mind. You may even record any dreams you remember. Often seeds and metaphors can lie within our dreams that are helpful.

During the day give yourself 3 or 4, 10 to 15 minute periods of time to just relax with your eyes closed in a peaceful space alone with or without music (I recommend meditative music). Please do not this while driving. You may laugh but some people have done that.

Monday - focus on what you would like to learn in the next 2 to 5 years

Tuesday - focus on you and things you would like to improve about you

Wednesday - focus on work or school

Thursday - focus on family

Friday - focus on friends

You may find this very helpful and beneficial and may want to begin doing this periodically throughout your life. To learn more about using intuition as a creative tool there are several books available.

I wish you the best.
