Alan's Creativity Challenges 2003-44

> Varied Interests Make for More Interesting Life
>
> Off I have read that more highly creative people have
> varied interests. It was a trait I disc opvered that
> researchers wrote about between 1950 and 1980 when a
> great deal of research was being done into the
> characterisitcs of highly creative students and
> adults. Because I believe that practice with skills,
> tools and experience with varied traits can expand us
> I am encouraging and challenging each of you to
> experiment with varied interests in the form of
> entertainment this week.
>
> Yesterday I drove to the mountains of northern Georgia
> to see the artistry of nature through the changing
> colors of Fall. During the afternoon I wandered
> through antique, pottery, country gift shops, quilt
> shops, gift shops. Then in the evening I attended a
> two hour live-broadcast of the Georgia Mountain Music
> Radio Show that is sponsored by the Folkways Assn in
> Dahlonega, Georgia.
>
> It is not the first time I have gone and done the same
> thing but I hadn't done it for over a year.
>
> This coming weekend I am going to a Pow Wow being held
> in Stone Mountain Park outside of Atlanta. There will
> be crafts, dancing, music and many other festivities.
>
> This week's challenge is to experience a different and
> unique form of entertainment each day.
>
> Go to a festival, gallery, opera, play, ballet,
> symphony, a theater that plays art movies, go to a
> cultural festival that represents another culture to
> your own, walk into unique shops.
>
> Pick up your newspaper, contact your chamber of
> commerce, call a local radio station and collect a
> list of the various activities that are taking place
> within an hour's drive of your home/town/city and
> choose one for each day.
>
> Many of these can be done by going to your library and
> checking out videos, audio tapes, or books about
> festivals around the world.
>
> MONDAY
> Explore a season based festival
>
> TUESDAY
> Attend/watch an opera
>
> WEDNESDAY
> Attend/listen to a symphony
>
> THURSDAY
> Go to an art gallery
>
> FRIDAY
> Check out some books about celebrations in another
> culture.
>
> Expand your interests, experiment with new interests,
> energize your week with new things to do.
>
> Have a highly creative week.
