7 Levels of Change

Creativity Challenge 1998 #14

Creativity Challenge #14 was sparked by my reading an excellent book on dealing with Change and the expanding of creativity; THE 7 LEVELS OF CHANGE.

In the book Rolf Smith explains the 7 Level development process he has discovered and created over the past 20 or so years. In his chapter about Level 4, Cutting: Doing Away with Things in the section on "Thinking About Thinking" he provides a TIP about "RE", what I was sparked to name one of the Gods of Creativity, or Creativity Gods. He suggests that we "RE" everything.

I am calling this idea sparker "Dealing with the Gods of Creativity".

The Romans, the Greeks, the Egyptians all had Gods who were responsible for helping human beings with specific aspects of their lives.

The same day that I had the AHA reading Rolf's book I received a call from my favorite bookstore that a book I had ordered awhile ago had finally come in... THE ORDER OF THINGS by Barbara Ann Kipfer It is a fascinating reference book about ordered lists of thousands of things.

Flipping through it I found on p. 154 her chart of Gods and Goddesses in Mythology. In it she included the "Gods of Creativity" for the Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians. Roman = Vulcan, Minerva
Greeks = Athena (hmmm Paul Torrance and I live in Athens, Greece)
Egyptians = Ptah
Coincidence or "gift from the Gods of Creativity"?

All that aside here is a Challenge based on one of my newer Gods of Creativity, the God, RE.

When stymied by a challenge/problem/situation. When needing to begin or spark your creative thinking. Then call on the Creativity God, "RE" to help you and all his/her forms on earth can be made available to you.

Simply think of some to many of his earthly forms...(thanks Rolf)

RE-THINK RE-FRAME RE-STATE RE-DECIDE RE-VISIT RE-CREATE RE-MOVE RE-DISCOVER RE-PAY RE-PRINT RE-EXPLORE RE-CAPTURE RE-LOOK RE-FUND RE-ALIGN RE-COPY RE-MAKE RE-WRITE RE-VERSE RE-DO RE-FORM RE-JOICE RE-DRAW RE-FRESH then examine your challenge/problem/situation or parts of it and do what the earthly forms of RE suggest you do.

Like Michael Michalko, Alex Osborn, Robert P. Crawford and many others have described in their books you might make individual cards of these forms of "RE" or many others you may find in a dictionary and randomly choose a set number, deal them out then apply the action they imply to your challenge/problem/situation.

Your Challenge? Try it this week
