Questions, Questions & More Questions

Creativity Challenge 1998 #32

Hello Creative Mind Stretching Club Members 8>)

How can I? When can we? Where do we? Why can it? Who can? What will?

Got the clue for sparking your creative thinking this week?

Ask questions, questions and more questions. Become a 3 to 4 year old once again. Become childlike.

Alex Osborn wrote about the power of questions. The famous problem solving consultant firm: Kepner-Tregoe have been teaching questioning for many years. Edward de Bono, Marsh Fisher, Robert Crawford, Harvey Brightman and most writers on or about creativity and problem solving for over 70 years have encouraged us to "ask more questions".

Your challenge this week is list 12 different questions you already ask or might ask to "spark an idea", "refine an idea", "generate multiple ideas", "challenge an idea", test an idea, challenge assumptions, situations or even "paradigms".

Remember the one word that Alex Osborn helped us to include in our questions. MIGHT.

How might ______? In What Ways might _____?

That one lesson received at a CPSI 20 years ago has made most of the difference in my life. Ask "open-ended" questions more often than "single-answer" or finite answer questions.

Have fun. Be a 4-year-old again. Ask "mo" questions. And share your list of questions with the list.

Alex Osborn had his famous list of 83. Perhaps we will generate 144 this week. K-T taught us to ask questions and then to ask the "opposite" question, i.e.: What is like "X"? What is not like "X"? hmmmm "What could be, might be like ___?"

Best wishes for a greatly creative and joy-filled week.

Alan
