You May End Up in the Corner

Creativity Challenge 1999 #20

All the way through school I tended to end up in the corners of my classrooms or in my counselors' offices. My later adult friends often teased me saying that's why I ended up an architect, "because you spent so much time in the corners of your classrooms."

In my 30s while studying creativity and traits of creative people I discovered a primary factor behind all my corner-sitting. I tend to be a divergent thinker, I see things differently and often in many ways simultaneously and spontaneously.

Now as an adult after all the years of trying to coach, counsel and teach creative thinking I deliberately choose to be divergent in my thinking.....sometimes to the frustration of people around me. As many comedians say...."sometimes you have to go for the laugh."

This week will be a simple exercise for some of you and a challenging, perhaps frustrating one to others.

Deliberately each day listen for opportunities to create "puns". Strive to discover or create 6 to a dozen each day and collect them.

pun....the different and humorous use of a word other than it's normal use, playing with various meanings of words, stretching the meaning of a word to make it humorous.

As was done with the simple mathematical and general thinking challenge last week, see how many you can produce, create, discover and please share them back to the list or me directly at alan@cre8ng.com and I will collect them and send them out as a list for future fun use and probably add them to my web site for future reference and fun for others in cyberspace. Credit will be given to all their sources.

Have a creative week. Deliberately choose to be creative 6 to a dozen times a day.

Alan
