What Would Happen If?

Creativity Challenge 1999 #21

Many years ago in a workshop at CPSI I attended, Sid Shore-inventor, physicist and creativity consultant from Connecticut, challenged us to take every day things and image..."What Would Happen If -------------?" happened.

Just prior to my first attending CPSI 1978 the US and other countries had experienced the oil crisis and the related highly increased prices and shortages leading to waiting in long, long lines for rationed amounts of gasoline. A lot of what if-ing was no doubt done at that time.

Recently while walking into my local Publix store I looked across the empty lot where the West Lumber had stood for over 20 years. It had become a vast empty lot with building construction of another strip mall under construction. My previous yet still existing architectural mind saw the future vast sea of asphalt paving. That's when this Challenge came to mind.

I began to imagine what my life would be like if I traveled using other currently non-existing vehicles or means because I could no longer use either of my automobiles.

So this week's challenge is to . . .

Pick a common aspect of life and imagine that it no longer existed for whatever reason.

Then write a list of 12 ways your life would be different.

Do this each day, Monday through Friday, for 12 to 15 minutes at breakfast or lunch with a different common aspect of life....automobiles, paper, houses, sight....

On Friday when you have completed the fifth, then look at your 50 +/- ideas and look for the patterns or parts of life you tend to focus on.

Have fun. Stretch and exercise your truly fantastic imagination this week.

Choose to be creative as often as you can.
