From In Here It Looks Like...!

Cre8ng™ Challenge 1999 - 32

Another of E. Paul Torrance's 20 Creative Strengths his Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking measures is "Internal Perspective".

This week let's take 15 to 20 minutes to use our imaginations to "climb inside problems". For practice and personal skill development let's use objects or devices.

First, look around the room you are in for 12, as totally, different things you can find and make a list of them.

  1. copy machine
  2. audio tape player
  3. desk lamp
  4. ball point pen
  5. conch shell

Second, choose one of the items and imagine yourself small enough to walk around inside the object or devise.

What can you see?
What can you hear?
What can you smell?
What happens when it is working?
What can you feel?
What are the textures or surfaces like?

If you are a visualizer, simply imagine yourself inside the object and experience it in your imagination.

If you are a sensor or "imaginer" who does not experience imaginery senses yet can think or imagine anything abstractly, imagine/think about what it would be like to be that small and inside that object.

Third, during the week use this technique to examine one of your work or personal problems.

Have a creative week next week.

Alan
