Be Helpable to Be More Creative

Cre8ng™ Challenge 2000-13

I just received messages from people in Australia who would like to use my book but they can not find it there yet. My aha for how to help them was to share. I will send them a copy of my book if they send a copy of an Australian creativity book or game.

Recently at the National Speakers Association's 2000 Eastern Winter Workshop one of the speakers, who had to have one leg amputated when she was only five told us about one of her lessons....we all need to become helpable.

My aha about being helpable to my new cyberspace friend in Australia, possibly sparked by the speaker's words in turn sparked this Creativity Challenge.

Each day choose a challenge or problem you are currently working on, real, virtual, imaginary, pure fiction. Then during the day ask for help from 12 different people, 6 current friends and 6 new ones.

First ask them for their help saying that you will help them in exchange. Second briefly explain your challenge. Third ask them for some ideas. Fourth ask them for their challenge. Fifth offer them some ideas.

Yes individuals often come up with breakthru ideas. Yet rarely can anyone single person turn that breakthru aha into workable, successfully implemented solutions.

Remember Edison had many associates and employees. Michelangelo had many assistants. Walt Disney had many different types of highly creative people to take his dreams and turn them into realities. Each of them in their own ways were "helpable".

Have a great creative week being helpable while helping as many other people as you can.
