Make a Think Pack

Creativity Challenge 2000 #43

External stimulation is an excellent way to "spark" creative thinking and pump ourselves up to generate ideas. Several of the previous CCs over the past 4 years are based on the use of external stimuli. So is this one.

This Challenge is the results of opening up Micheal Michalko's great THINKPAK published by Ten Speed Press. The pack is a great tool based on his wonderful book, THINKERTOYS, also published by Ten Speed Press.

Each day this week begin to create your own "pack" of "idea sparking" cards or tools. Your cards will consist of a set of cards that form acronyms that are words related to creativity. So go find a dictionary again. You will need it.

First produce your daily small "pack" of idea generating verbs using the daily creative word acronym.

Second use the cards randomly, one at a time, for about 15 minutes, to generate ideas for the daily challenge.

Monday

Today's word is CREATE.

Look up 6 separate verbs in your dictionary. Write each one separately on index cards. For example....change,rearrange, examine, attach, touch, export.

Use these to generate ideas for what to do with an empty soup can.

Tuesday

Today's word is SPARK

Use these to generate ideas for what to do with an empty cereal box.

Wednesday

Today's word is INNOVATE

Use these to generate ideas for what to do with a broken baseball bat.

Thursday

Today's word is GENERATE

Use these to generate ideas for what to do with a pile of leaves.

Friday

Today's word is UNIQUE

Use these to generate ideas for what to do with a blank highway billboard.

The results of the week will be your own personal "Pack" of "Idea Sparking" tools. I highly recommend that you buy your own copies of both Micheal's THINKPACK AND THINKERTOYS published by TEN SPEED PRESS.
