BOFF-O! - Brain On Fast Forward

Creativity Challenge 2000 #44

In 1996 Marilyn Shoeman Dow released an excellent Idea Sparking tool, her BOFF-O! card deck. To find out more about the actual deck and her work contact her at ThinkLink 2515 39 SW Seattle, WA 98116.

Briefly the BOFF-O! deck consists of 4 groups of cards purple TARGET cards
green BOOSTER cards
blue LAUNCHER cards
yellow Wizard of AHA's cards or lists of the differences between Redlighters and Greenlighters. Reds kill or slow down ideas and Greens promote and encourage ideas.

I have no idea how the cards are used because I have misplaced the instructions.

This week's CC was sparked by simply looking at Marilyn's BOFF-O! cards and her acronym BRAIN ON FAST FORWARD!

Let's take our brains to Star Trek's "warp speed" this week by focusing them in a single direction each day.

During the week you will make 5 sets of 12 cards with one message or word on each individual card. After this week you might laminate them as use them periodically as your own personal "Warp Speed Thinking" deck when you need to rapid start your creative thinking.

Monday
make a set of 12 ACTION VERB cards on "GREEN THINKING" index cards. Choose the most unique and dramatic verbs you can find in your dictionary.

Throughout the day when you are working on a challenge pull out and review the ACTION VERB or GREEN Thinking Cards to help take your creativeness up to "warp speed" and to a different galaxy.

Tuesday
make a set of 12 FEELING VERB cards on"BLUE FEELING" index cards. Choose the most unique and dramatic feeling verbs you can find in your dictionary.

Throughout the day when you are working on a challenge pull out and review the ACTION VERB or BLUE Thinking Cards to help take your creativeness up to "warp speed" and to a different galaxy.

Wednesday
make a set of 12 POSITIVE RESULTS (adjectives) cards on POSITIVENESS SEARCHING index cards. Choose the most unique and dramatic words (nouns or adjectives or possibly adverbs used as nouns or adjectives) you can find in your dictionary.

Throughout the day when you are working on a challenge pull out and review the POSITIVE RESULTS or YELLOW Searching Cards to help take your creativeness up to "warp speed" and to a different galaxy.

Thursday
make a set of 12 HIGH ENERGY cards on RED ENERGY index cards. Choose the most unique and dramatic words you can find in your dictionary.

Throughout the day when you are working on a challenge pull out and review the HIGH ENERGY or RED Thinking Cards to help take your creativeness up to "warp speed" and to a different galaxy.

Friday
make a set of 12 ANALYSIS cards on WHITE REVIEW index cards. Choose the most unique and diverse words you can find in your dictionary.

Throughout the day when you are working on a challenge pull out and review the ANALYSIS or WHITE Reviewing Cards to help take your thinking up to "warp speed" and to a different galaxy.

For those of you who are Edward de Bono fans this was not based on his excellent 6 Thinking Hats model or program. I highly recommend the reading of his Six Thinking Hats and Six Action Shoes books to discover those excellent thinking and problem systems.
