Become Creative by Sitting Down and Create, Create, Create

Creativity Challenge 2001 #21

Yesterday a new book I ordered arrived at my favorite bookstore.

The Writer's IDEA BOOK: How to develop great ideas for fiction, nonfiction, poetry and screenplays.

I saw an ad for it in my latest issue of Writer's Digest in a promo for the Writers Digest Book Club.

Reading the first few pages at a new and very good Chinese restaurant near my home in between ordering, receiving the different plates I ordered and trying to eat them without spilling Egg Drop Soup, bites of my Spring Roll, Lo Mein noodles or any portion of the Happy Family on me or the book sparked this week's challenge.

Sorry just practising writing creatively. No necessarily very well.

The author is talking throughout the book about writing, about becoming a more creative writer and writing more creatively. I simply fill in the words be or being more creative for the word write every time as I read.

This week stretch your creative thinking muscles through some creative writing each day. Set aside 15 minutes to a half hour each day to sit down to write or walk and talk into a tape recorder the daily exercise.

Each day become the chosen source of perspective and write as if you were it. Write about what their life at that moment is like if they were able to write in your language as a human being.

MONDAY Describe in detail your world for 15 minutes as if you were a butterfly flying around in it. Be very specific from the butterfly's perspective, your new perspective.

TUESDAY Describe in detail your world for 15 minutes as if you were a tree in your yard or near your home or office. Be very specific from the tree's perspective, your new perspective.

WEDNESDAY Describe in detail your world for 15 minutes as if you were a desk drawer in your home, school or office. Be very specific from the drawer's perspective, your new perspective.

THURSDAY Describe in detail your world for 15 minutes as if you were an insect underground. Be very specific from the insect's perspective, your new perspective.

FRIDAY Describe in detail your world for 15 minutes as if you were an emotion, any emotion, an emotion that can think and write. Be very specific from the emotion's perspective, your new perspective.

Have fun.

Please share a paragraph or two during week with the list you are on or with me directly.
