You Can See a Lotta Stuff Just by Looking

Creativity Challenge 2001 #45

The title of this CC is paraphrased from what I believe Yogi Berra once said or at least has been quoted as having said once.

For the past few nights, as during several others, since returning from my trip around the world this summer I have been sorting through photographs to organize them to show friends and to have around to enjoy periodically myself. Personally I don't like having to keep photographs stored away in books or boxes where they will probably never be seen again or at least not for a very long, long time.

Over the past 3 years I have been rummaging through boxes and boxes, sorting photographs and creating montages of collections of photographs of family, friends, trips, clients, work, etc. and posting them in various ways around my offices and home so I can instantly go on memory excursions any time I choose or accidentally as my eyes fall on them passing by.

Your creativity challenge this week is to take time to visually, mentally and emotionally relive your life each day. While you are doing it look for what you learned or could learn now about creativity, creative thinking, creative problem solving.

First go pull out those boxes, books, bags, envelopes that you have photos stashed away in and pull them out.

Pick a table or set one up that you can leave up throughout the week.

Second, sort through them for awhile and create 5 separate piles based on themes, topics, times. Themes: holidays, birthdays, vacations, happy times; Topics: work, play, family, friends; or Times: age 1 to 5, 5 to 12, teenage, 20s or college, 30s, etc.

Third, pile them and arrange them into 5 piles, one per day.

Fourth, during your "Creativity Challenges and Creative Thinking Development Time" simply look through one of the piles, allowing yourself to relive, review, revisit what wonders of your life are stored in the images.

Fifth, keep a notebook with you throughout the week and jot down memories, messages from your mind and heart, plus learnings that you discover or rediscover from the visual, mental and emotional experiences.

Have a great time reliving good times in your life. If some sad to bad times come to memory as they may accept them, think and feel through them, perhaps thinking about what good memories you can that surrounded or preceded those times will help with the sadness and feelings of grief that may arise.
