I Know It When I Can See, Hear, Smell, Feel, Taste It

Creativity Challenge 2001 #50

Traveling to Montgomery, Alabama this weekend to spend time with a creativity friend and fellow CPSI Leader Andy Aleinikov, originally from Russia sparked this CC. During a few hours we visited several museums, galleries and creative points of interest in Montgomery including an exhibit of the drawings and paintings of his artist son, Andre. While he drove I tried to remind myself to use all my senses during our overview tour of his southern city. This week challenge yourself to use all of your senses to discover creativity in order to learn more about how to produce it on demand.

Begin by making a list of characteristics of creativeness and creative things using the Roman or any other alphabet you choose.

I.E.:

  1. adapt
  2. broaden
  3. combine
etc.

Then each day choose to expose yourself to as much creativeness as you can before you leave for work or school, during your lunch time or after work or school or in the evening.

MONDAY - Visit an art gallery, either physically or virtually through books, tapes or magazines. While there experience as much of the art as you can and compare it against your alphabetic list of traits of creativeness to evaluate which pieces are more creative than others.

TUESDAY - Visit a history museum, either physically or virtually through books, tapes or magazines. While there experience as much of the creations from the past as you can and compare it against your alphabetic list of traits of creativeness to evaluate which pieces are more creative than others.

WEDNESDAY - Visit a science and technology museum, either physically or virtually through books, tapes or magazines. While there experience as much of the science and technology as you can and compare it against your alphabetic list of traits of creativeness to evaluate which pieces are more creative than others.

THURSDAY - Visit a sports museum or field, either physically or virtually through books, tapes or magazines. While there experience as much of the sports as you can and compare it against your alphabetic list of traits of creativeness to evaluate which pieces are more creative than others.

FRIDAY - Visit a shopping mall, either physically or virtually through books, tapes or magazines. While there experience as much of the creativity in the stores and mall in general as you can and compare it against your alphabetic list of traits of creativeness to evaluate which pieces are more creative than others.

Your challenge is to determine 20+ traits, then go find them demonstrated through the creativeness of other people, present or past.

Happy Holidays

Alan
