Creativity Challenge 1998 #22

Creativity surrounds everyone of us. How to create can be learned anywhere you are at this moment. This week's challenge is to demonstrate one way to show that this is true.

First pick one object. Then find 12 variations of this object. List them. Then write down how each is different from the original object you chose. Then ask yourself what might be the underlying principle(s) of creative thinking that helped make the difference happen.

Later when you have a challenge apply those 12 principles to your challenge to produce 12 ways to creatively deal with your challenge.
i.e.:
note paper

colored scrapes of paper made from an incorrect printing order

2. pads of colored paper
3. paper with non-permanent adhesive on them 4. 2 ft x 3 ft pads of paper
5. preprinted message note sheets
6. pads of absorbent paper for kitchen clean up
7. roll of soft absorbent squares of paper
8. palm of hand size pretreated dusting pad sheets
9. small drawing pads
10. preprinted post cards
11. pretreated disease testing sheets
12. pretreated chemical testing sheets

next step is to look for the creative thinking principle or tool used to produce the idea. 1. add something (color)
2. combine (add adhesive) change use and add something (adhesive)
4. magnify, enlarge and change use change use, save time, combine purposes

look for other uses
look for other forms of collecting and different uses
look for different uses not thought of before
change form and purpose
combine uses, combine ideas and change purpose
look where else the idea might be used, modify the idea
look where else the idea might be used, modify the idea

You may not always come up with 12 separate and different principles or tools.
By doing this exercise I now have a use of creative thinking principles to consider using on my next challenge.

1. add something
2. combine things
3. change use
4. magnify
5. combine purposes
6. look for other uses
7. look other forms
8. create new uses
9. change form

look for where else ideas can be used modify idea: physically, visually, etc. ?

Now its your turn.
