"It Can't Be Done!"

Creativity Challenge 2000 #37

Human history is filled with "It Can't Be Done!" quotations. Yet many of the impossible things were accomplished or are being accomplished.

A famous scientist and inventor attempted an experiment two times after extensive laboratory work and failed. He had been supported by government grant money. He has been quoted as saying that it probably would take a thousand years or so before what he wanted to prove could be done would be done. Within 90 days two brothers with no outside funding accomplished the same task. They were Orville and Wilbur in 1903 at Kitty Hawk.

This week let's collect CAN'Ts of yesterday and today that haven't been turned into Can's or already have been done's yet.

Monday focus on science & engineering
Tuesday focus on business
Wednesday focus on society
Thursday focus on entertainment
Friday focus on sports

Each day take 15 to 20 minutes by yourself to list in a CAN"T or HAVEN'T BEEN DONE YET Diary. then during the day ask other people for their examples of CAN'Ts or HAVEN'T BEEN DONE YET's. Also think about quotations related to them and shared them with the list or me directly.

Here are some examples that I quoted in my book BROKEN CRAYONS and have been quoted in many books on creative thinking and creativity. Have fun collecting them. Please share those that you collect.

"Groups with guitars are on the way out!" Decca Records Executive before the Beatles came to the US

"No one needs a computer in their home." DEC computer company executive

"Who wants to hear actors talk?" Harry Warner of Warner Bros

"Man will never find a practical use for the atom." Lord Ernest Rutherford

"Heavier than air flying machines are impossible." Lord Kelvin

"Everything that can be invented has been invented." 1899 - Director of the Patent Office

"We will never release our cartoons and movies on video tape. There's too great a danger of illegal copying." - Ronald Miller (Walt Disney's son-in-law) President of Disney Corp.

"Sensible and responsible women do not want the right to vote." Grover Cleveland

Have a creative week!
